Mateusz Smietana

Dr. Mateusz Smietana received his B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. (with distinctions), and D.Sc. in field Electronics from the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Poland, in 2000, 2002, 2007, and 2014, respectively. Since March 2006 he has been working in the Institute of Microelectronics and Optoelectronics (IMiO), WUT. Since December 2015 he has been an Associate Professor at WUT. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Virginia Tech (USA, 2007) and Université du Québec en Outaouais (Canada, 2009-2011), as well as scholar at Stanford University (USA, 2011) within I edition of Polish TOP500 Innovators Program. He received scholarships from the European Social Fund through the WUT Development Programme (Poland, 2009), the FQRNT by the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sports du Québec (Canada, 2009), Foundation for Polish Science (Poland, 2011), and as outstanding young scientist by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Poland, 2011). He was a leader and principle investigator in over 13 projects. He has co-authored more than 90 journal and conference papers, 4 book chapters and 1 patent. He received 5 scientific awards from Rector of WUT and 6 various awards at international invention shows and exhibitions, including 2 gold medals at IWIS 2009 and 2010. His field of interest is technology of microelectronic and optoelectronic devices, especially those based on nano-coated optical fiber sensors and biosensors.
