The new frontiers of project management

The past few decades have witnessed a boom in project management. Its remarkable success has lived up to the prediction made in 1995 by Fortune magazine, which named it the profession of the 21st century. As interest in the field has grown unabated, research on the management of projects is gradually giving way to research on projects. New frontiers of project management are emerging, giving rise to the need to open up the field to organizational theories and related disciplines such as strategy and international management. The emergence of new frontiers in project management research has brought its own set of challenges: complexity; the interface between related disciplines and non-traditional sectors (health, banking, the arts, etc.); and the theoretical foundations of project management.

We invite you to come and explore with us these new frontiers of project management, and the challenges they pose for both researchers and practitioners. Namely:

  • The issue of complexity in project management as it relates to the expansion of disciplinary boundaries;
  • The variety of contributions that related disciplines and non-traditional sectors can make to project management;
  • An epistemological and theoretical reflection on the issues raised by the expansion of the frontiers of project management.

We also invite graduate students to participate in our École du printemps, held in French. (See tab École du printemps).
